4 Your Versapers Slowjuicer

The 1G (First Generation) slowjuicers of Versapers can be recognized by the totally free juice outlet. With the 2G version a ‘small screen’ in the juice outlet prevents objects or fingers to be put in. In addition, the fine strainer of the 1G is white, while the color of the fine strainer of the 2G is orange or yellow. The 3G has a juice cap at the juice outlet. And the gear at the bottom of the bowl is opposite the two outlets of the pulp and the juice (and not directly in front of them). On the page 'which generation slowjuicer do I have' the differences are explained further.

Suppose, you need a new strainer when you want to replace the bowl. Please note how old and which type your Versapers slowjuicer is. If you have a White or Chrome version, bought before August 2010, then you have a 1G and you need the upgrade/replacement kit. The new strainer won't fit into your former bowl. If your slowjuicer is more recent, then you can exchange the strainer independently from the bowl. This is also the case when you have a Pearl or Titanium version. You can also order a fine strainer separately, no matter how old your slowjuicer is.

The fine strainer has fine meshes which hold bakc the fibers in the juice as much as possible, producing a smooth juice. Incidentally, also small parts of fiber get through the fine strainer when juicing fruits and vegetables rich in fiber. The fine strainer is mad of hard Ultem material, which makes it suitable for both soft and hard and fibrous fruits and vegetables.

The coarse strainer allows more fiber to get through, making the juice thicker. The coarse strainer which comes for free with the slowjuicer is made of less hard plastic. That is why this strainer is only suitable for soft fruits. With hard products it can break easily.

For people who want more, there are additional accessories such as a pulp sieve for velvety soft juice without fibers. Also, there is an Ultem coarse strainer which is suitable for all types of products. Look at this page for more information about the various strainers.

No, the parts of the Versapers are not suitable for the dishwasher. At a temperature of 80 degrees or above the parts will deform. Furthermore, the detergent can damage the plastic. Best is to rinse the parts directly under the tap. When you wait too long, the pulp residue can dry out which makes cleaning more difficult. After rinsing, this takes about 3 minutes, you can airdry the parts on the kitchen counter or immediately dry them with a towel. It is also wise to let the silicone parts dry well. A periodic major cleaning is best done by soaking the parts of the top set into a solution of soda crystals.

13 Problem Solving

This means that the pressure inside the bowl has become so high that the juice is looking for a different way out than the juice outlet. It can happen when 'overfeeding' or entering very fibrous vegetables or fruits too fast in too large pieces. The Versapers becomes clogged, the pressure will increase and the juice is looking for another way to get out. You can avoid this by cutting fibrous foods into small pieces transverse to the fiber direction and entering them gently so the slowjuicer has enough time to squeeze the juice out.
The machine is built with one outlet for pulp and one outlet for juice. The round outlet (right as you face the unit) is for the juice. On the left-hand side the pulp comes out. Sometimes, mostly just in the beginning, a bit of fluid could come out. With fiber-rich products it may occur congestion is beginning to emerge. You will notice immediately when hardly any pulp comes out or into very thin slivers. By adding a piece of apple or carrot the pulp quickly reappears. When the pulp does not come out immediately, put the machine for a few moments in the reverse mode and then it should work again as usual. The machine will then need some time to process the blocking products. The pulp will appear again. If this is not the case then too much fibers are blocking the outlet and it is best to clean it. However it never has to happen, if you vary well between products, do not “overfeed” the slowjuicer and allows the machine sufficient time to process the products.
The Versapers 2G and 3G have an on-off button which as a precaution has been finished with a silicone, splash-proof cover. Do you have wet hands? Better to dry them first before turning the machine on or off. Water in the on/off button may cause damage and oxidize electrical contacts.
This is an unfortunate situation that occurs occasionally with spoons or other objects. You could buy a whole new top set, but that is the last resort. We recommend that you first try to get the hopper off, so you can see what the damage is inside. This way you can find out if just a part has to be replaced and that is a lot less expensive than a complete new top set. You have to disconnect the hopper with force. That can best be done by sitting on a chair with the bowl between your knees. Turn the hopper to the left. Therefore take the juice outlet and pulp outlet in both hands and turn counterclockwise with great force to the left. You can use a lot of force without fearing to break something. This is the only way to get the hopper off. We have no other options. Hopefully that does the trick - check the parts for damage.
It may happen that you are happily using your slowjuicer, and suddenly the next day it does switch on. This can also occur when the Versapers has not been used for a while. You can always have a look at the manual. The most important thing is that the Versapers has been properly put together. The lid must be closed well. There is a magnet in the lid and if the lid is not closed well, the machine does not turn on. It could also be a temporary failure when you always leave the plug in the outlet. Remove the plug from the outlet for a few hours, put it back and try again. It is best always to remove the plug from the power outlet after use. If this does not work, please try our Versapers magnet test first. In 99% of the cases the Versapers will work again!
The slowjuicer bruises products with 70 rpm, which gives a super quality juice. When you allow your slowjuicer too little time to crush and juice the strainer or pulp outlet may get clogged slowly. This 'overfeeding' occurs by entering products too fast, unnecessary pushing or pieces which are too large. While operating at a leisurely pace, the slowjuicer runs at its best and you will have delicious freshly squeezed juice in no time!
This happens if you enter too much at once too fast or too large pieces. You cannot expect pushing half winter carrots into the hoppper it will go through without any problems. Place the products into the hopper as if it were your own mouth. In bits and not too fast allowing the juicer time to process and compress through the outlet. It also helps to vary harder pieces with softer ones.
When the machine stops, it could mean that the lid is no longer closed correctly. A security mechanism has been built in. The shifting occurs at high pressure in the bowl and that usually means that you are 'overfeeding' your slowjuicer with adding too many products too fast, so the strainer gets difficulties to handle everything and the pressure rises inside. Pushing more with the 'pusher' therfore works counterproductive. At too high a pressure the lid comes under too much strain. It is importang to allow the slowjuicer the time to grind and squeeze the products. Put the products in gently one by one by just dropping them into the hopper. It is also possible that, when juicing the pressure becomes so high that the entire bowl shifts a bit. You do not have to open the lid and the motor can keep on going. This is okay, but it is important not to 'overfeed' your Versapers by entering too large (hard) pieces.
The main reason is that the fibers and pulp did accumulate in the bowl, the pressure has been increased while you continued to press. Meanwhile, there will be little or no more pulp from the pulp output. This forces the engine to use more strength to turn around and the press screw turns increasingly tougher. This causes the bowl to get tighter on the three black hooks of the motor block. There is no question of getting a vacuum. To loosen the bowl you can tap with some force against the juice exit, counterclockwise. Some extra force should be used, so the bowl can slide off the three black hooks. After disconnecting control immediately if the black hooks are clean, because dried up leftovers of the juice can cause the bowl to stick faster. Make sure next time that the pulp exit continues to run well, so the pressure will not rise excessively.
When you take the bowl off the machine block, you see three black 'notches' on the block. With these receptacles the bowl is tightened. If you look closely, you can see the slot underneath; the receptacles hook with the bowl. This means it is a matter of turning it counterclockwise, causing the bowl to come off so it can be lifted. No leverage effect is needed. So when you finished using the machine it is best to grasp the entire top set at the juice and pulp outlets and turn it counterclockwise with a thug. Then you feel the bowl loosening from the hooks and you can lift if off easily.
This is a clear signal that the machine is overloaded and you must immediately slow down. This problem has to do with the speed of adding the products. With hard vegetables like carrots or beets, the Versapers simply needs some time to grind and transport the products. If this goes too fast with pieces which are too big, the slowjuicer may stop. This means that your machine is temporarily overloaded which obviously should be avoided. Cut the beetroot and carrot into strips or slices of 1 cm thick and enter them gently, preferably 1 by 1 and let the machine press at its own pace. In case of jamming use the reverse position (the on/off button) to detach the products again.
This squeaking may occur due to strong friction between the bowl and the strainer. Especially with tougher vegetables, such as carrots or fennel, this may happen. The vegetable is pressed against the strainer by the black squeezing screw and while rotating this literally bruises the vegetable. This can make the sound. When some more moisture gets in, in combination with, for example, apple it is muted more rapidly. It is important that yout cut the tougher dry vegetables into smaller pieces and add them gently, so the Versapers does its job quietly. In this way the friction and the sound in the bowl won't become too much.

The Versapers has a fine and a coarse strainer. If you want minimal fibers, use the fine strainer. Some products, such as pineapple, fennel or celery have from origin many small fibers in them. The fine strainer also allows some of these fibers to get through. It helps to enter the products at a gentle pace. At a faster pace, the strainer gets more full and the juice will aslo be squeezed through the upper ring. Because the upper holes of the strainer are slightly larger, fibers can get through more easily. An additional possibility is the pulp strainer. You can easily put this on the juice container, so the juice will get an extra filtering. This pulp sieve costs € 7,50 euro plus shipping and can be ordered through: http://versapers.nl/accessories/pulp-zeef.html

5 Cleaning and Maintenance

A brown-colored deposit can occur when the Versapers is used intensively or by superficial cleaning. To remove any deposit, best to soak the top set overnight in warm water with soda crystals. After soaking overnight, you can easily remove all deposit with a brush. The components of the Versapers can NOT be put in a dishwasher.
The black spots are caused by residual scraps in a damp place. Make sure your parts are dried properly after every cleaning. Soak the silicone parts overnight in hot water with soda crystals. Then you can brush or rub off the black spots. If this still fails, the silicone material is affected too much. You can then purchase an accessories set (http://versapers.com/accessories/spare-parts-set-2g.html) and replace the parts.
It is important to keep the silicone brushes clean. You can periodically take out these brushes, clean them and then slide them back. They are not installed permanently.
The brush has a tapered tip at the rear end. First take out the silicone tab on the bottom of the bowl and then use the back of the brush to remove the fibers from the outlet. Optionally a Chinese chopstick also works very well. When you cut long fibers shorter, it also becomes easier because less long fibers remain.
Clean the Versapers directly after use. It is easier for you and this way the acids of fruits have less influence on the plastic parts. Use the brush to keep the strainer clean. Because most vegetables and fruits are not fat, you can use just water for daily cleaning. Use only occasionally detergent and a soft sponge so the plastic parts last longer. Watch the following video to see how you clean the Versapers http://versapers.com/new/blog/gebruiksaanwijzingdeel3 For more thoroughly cleaning to remove any deposits, the best way it to soak the whole top set overnight in warm water with soda crystals. After soaking overnight all deposits can be removed easily with a brush. The components of the Versapers can NOT be cleaned in a dishwasher.

17 Use of Fruits and Veggies

Sometimes our customers experience difficulties when squeezing celery.

What is noticeable are the long fibers of the celery that are clinging to the screw and get stuck in the pulp exit. This is a known issue. We have many customers who like to squeeze celery. (often because they are enthusiastic about celery juice after reading Anthony Willams' book).

The problem then often lies in feeding long pieces of celery in the hopper. There are no knife blades in the Versapers and the screw just presses and bruises the vegetables. Because celery has a lot of hard fibers, these fibers become just pieces of rope that turn around the screw and get stuck in the pulp exit because they can not get around the sharp corner of the pulp exit. This will cause the pulp to not exit properly and get clogged up above. The pressure in the strainer and the bowl thus increases. This situation goes from bad to worse, the pressure increases but the pulp must go somewhere at some point. Then it eventually goes under and over the strainer and you end up with a juice full of pulp.

The best way to make it easy for your machine is to cut these fibers 0.5 - 1 cm very short. The shorter you cut it, the easier it is for the machine to process. So if you have a stalk of celery, cut the bottom off, then remove the individual stalks. Rinse each stalk clean and then put them back together on a large cutting board. Then chop the celery with a large sharp knife into "macaroni curves". Rather more fine than too coarse, but do what you can and are comfortable with.

If you work this way, the pulp output will flow much better and your juice will be of better quality even if you juice 3 whole bunches of celery. The same advice applies to all fibrous vegetables, such as fennel, ginger, dill or parsley stems etc. etc.

Because you can press all kinds of fruits and vegetables with a Versapers, your options are unlimited. Often the preference of your taste determines which juices you would like to make. But try out new variations regularly. Nice, tasty and you learn to discover new flavors. The Versapers now comes as standard with a recipe book with 64 recipes. This book is also for sale in our shop. Subscribe via the website of Versapers to our newsletter, and you will receive periodically new recipes and tips.
There are several possibilities. A few examples: adding carrot/spinach pulp to lasagne or turning vegetable pulp into a soup. You can use it to make a carrot cake, a veggie burger or with flour and butter as cookies from the oven. It is also tasty to add the pulp partly to the juice again, in a combination with yoghurt or milk and some seeds or crunched nuts to make a smoothie. Overall, it is definitely worth doing something with it. What is important to know is that the taste of the pulp itself is quite bland, because the tast mostly ends up in the juice. So adding spices such as pepper or a mixture of Italian herbs, is advisable. When you have found a good recipe with pulp, we would appreciate if you could share it with us. Who knows, it might be included as a new recipe in our recipe book!
Long strong fibers of leafy vegetables can clog the outlet. It is best to have a large cutting board with a knife and cut everything into smaller pieces (1-2 cm). That facilitates the input and improves the extraction and export (the smaller, the better and easier). For soft non-fibrous products such as melon / apple / cucumber etc. this is less important. But the harder and the more fibrous the product, the more it helps if you first cut it into smaller pieces of the size as if you would eat them yourself.
it is best to drink juicers directly or on the same day, because the nutritional value gets less as time goes by. If you want to preserve juice over a longer period of time, pour it into a glass bottle and fill the bottle to the brim so there is no oxygen in it and seal it with a cap. Inside the refrigerator it will keep well up to 48 hours. Some juices such as applejuice will turn brown after some time. Vegetable juicers are teneble for a longer period. Adding some lemonjuice to your vegetables gives it an army green color. The lemon affects the chlorophyll in the vegetables.
On the whole this has to do with the type of vegetables or fruits and sometimes the freshness. Products like wheat grass and kale will create more foam than cucumber or melon. Mainly soapy vegetables or non-fresh products can form foam. This is due to the type of the vegetable and cannot be prevented completey. It often helps to mix things into the hopper. So if you make juice of various products, best is to vary them when you put them into the hopper.
Depending on the product there is more or less water in it. When juices sits for a while, the fibers will float to the top due to the difference in density. This creates a slight separation of juice and fiber. This, however, is not comparable to the effect of a centrifugal juicer. Here the juice is beaten by the high turning force and separated from the pulp with the addition of oxygen. This also makes the color of this juice duller.
The zest of lemon can be put in the slow juicer, provided you only use a few thin slices for an extra aroma in the juice. The skin is relatively tough, so cut it into smaller slices, so that the Versapers can squeeze it more easily and the pressure in the strainer does not rise too high. The peel of a lime is even stiffer and almost leather-like, it can't go in the slow juicer. The inside of a lime is also stiffer than a lemon, so we don't recommend putting peeled lime in the Versapers. Always use the citrus press (included with the 5G) for lime juice and also when you want to make 100% lemon juice.
Yes, this is necessary because of the unhealthy substances in the peel. The peel also gives a foul bitter taste to the juice.
Experience show that apples from orchards can be very diverse in structure and generally rather pulpous. The structure of the apples gives relatively little juice, causing excess fibers into the juice. Therefore, we do not recommend you to buy a Versapers for this purpose, unless of course you are planning to make many other juices. With grapes it strongly depends on the type of grape. Seedless grapes are exellent. Most grape seeds add some bitterness to the juice. Yet with other types of grapes you have to clean the strainer after every kilo. Sometimes an increasing number of seeds is left in the strainer, which can lead to a buildup and blockage of the blow. With redcurrants you have to clean the strainer already after half a kilo because of the seeds.
Some products contain from origin little juice and have a dense structure. This means there is relatively not much to juice. Because the structure is dense but fine, the juice result can be somewhat thicker. Examples are banana, avocado or cooking apples. There are no methods to prevent this, because the product happens to be so. When you combine this type of products with very juicy products such as a Granny Smith apple, cucumber or orange, etc. than the thicker juice is easily flushed.
Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables and wheat grass are quite a challenge for the Versapers. The long fibers can wrap around the squeezing screw or accumulate in the pulp outlet, causing a blockage or even stopping the machine. All of this can be avoided by cutting the fiber-rich products into short pieces of 1 to 2 cm, transverse to the fiber. The short fibers will not easily cause a blockage. In addition to smaller, shorter pieces it is also wise to vary with pieces of apple or carrot. This ensures that the fibers are transported againg through the machine, there is more space at the passage and thus prevents a blockage.
Yes, this is possible provided the products have been soaked for at least 6 hours before putting them with some water in the Versapers. When the products enter the Versapers hard and uncooked or non-soaked the strainer will be damaged. With soaked soybeans and water, you can make your own soy milk with the Versapers. The same also applies to almonds and other nuts.
Carrots and beets are very hard. Fibrous vegetables, stalks of celery and stems of herbs can be very tough. Therefore, make sure when you use these products, you cut them into smaller pieces. It works well to mix them with sof pieces which helps to improve the output of the machine. Let the machine 'consume' it before entering more. Too many hard pieces too fast can eventually wear out the machine faster of even damage it. Rule of thumb is that you cut pieces the same size as if you were to put them in your mouth.
Hard stones in cherries, plums or apricots can damage the strainer. Always remove hard stones before juicing. Rule of thumb is: if you can chew on the stone and it does not hurt, you can use it without problems in the Versapers. For example, pits of apples, citrus fruits, etc. are no problem. For example seeds or cores from papaya or Galia melon you'd better remove first with a spoon.
Yes, you can. The Versapers Slow Juicer 5G makes an excellent juice extract of most berries and grapes. However, some seeds of berries may clog the pulp exit and some seeds of grapes may leave a bitter taste. It is important to use grapes and berries with care, depending on the characteristics of the seeds. The remains of the seeds from berries and grapes can accumulate in the strainer, so therefore check regularly if the pulp outlet is running well. If it gets clogged, first remove the accumulated seed residue before continuing. In general, you can juice about 500 g to 1 kg berries or grapes with seeds before cleaning may be needed. Seedless grapes are of course ideal.

4 Model Differences

Both machines have their strong points, so they can have one's preference in purchasing. The Versapers is a vertical slowjuicer which automatically captures and squeezes the products you enter (self feeding). In case of a horizontal slowjuicer you have to push the products more often with the pusher. The vertical slowjuicer is suitable for various fruits and vegetables, including wheatgrass. However, if you want to press wheat grass every day, we recommend you choose a horizontal slowjuicer. Because of the longer press screw they can get the best return from wheatgrass and the strainer is less subject to wear.
The machines are very different from each other and really hard to compare. The Versapers is a slowjuicer, which at low speed (but with fast juice results) gently crushes and squeezes fruits and vegetables. This gives a high quality juice, in which minerals and enzymes remain intact. Live juice we call it. A centrifugal juicer gets juice out of fruits with extremely high speed. This does not improve the quality, a lot of oxygen mixes with the juice, causing immediately oxidation of the juice. This is bad for the sustainability and quality. In a blender, there is no separation between pulp and juice and there is also very high speed. The Versapers also can make smoothies. You can remix juice and pulp and the nice thing is that you can choose which kind of pulp you add to your smoothie!
The Versapers, Hurom and others are made in the same factory. The interior is the same but there are slight differences in the housing, packaging etc. Versapers is the importer and distributor for the Dutch and European market and operates under its own brand name along with the Hurom factory. You can rest assured that with your Versapers you have a quality product with over 40 years of experience and development. The Versapers products are manufactured with the utmost care and knowledge.
Versapers offers 3 models of slowjuicers in 7 different colour schemes. The 2G series, 3G series and the 4G series. The main differences are in the design and the used materials. All models are of top quality, the finishing and user friendliness are more luxourious with the 3G and 4G. The 2G and 3G are a little sharper in the design and are the most compact slowjuicers on the market. Furthermore our newest model, the Versapers 4G, is 100% BPA free and is fully redeveloped with even better results. If you like solid and simple, choose the 2G. If you have a little more budget and you want something hip, then allow yourself a 3G in Sea Green or Aubergine. If you want the best and the newest on the market, the 4G series is perfect for you.

4 Warranty and Service

Your receipt is your warranty certificate. This may be the invoice (pdf) of Versapers or the receipt of the relevant Versapers dealer, where you bought your slowjuicer, Vacublend or Rainboy. In case of a warranty claim, we may ask for your receipt or invoice.
Versapers stands for the quality of its products. Therefore, for Versapers slowjuicers we offer a 10 year warranty on the motor and 2 years warranty on the top set. For Vacublend we offer a 2 year warranty and for Raiboy a 3 year warranty. For Rainboy, periodic maintenance is required in accordance with the user manual. When an item is faulty, please contact us. You can send an email to info@versapers.nl with a photo of the defect and an explanation of what happened. We will contact you as soon as possible to explore the possibilities for warranty. When a component is replaced, there is always € 7,50 shipping charges, because this is never covered in the warranty.
The squeezing screw is poured into a form, leaving a molding mark at the seam. So this is no damage and does not do your Versapers any harm. You can just go on with juicing. If you still have doubts, please send a picture with explanation to info@versapers.nl. We will contact you as soon as possible.
The EMS coarse strainer comes free with the Versapers and is intended for soft fruits. When this is broken, often hard fruits or vegetables have been pressed with it. The Ultem fine or coarse strainer is made of super strong Ultem plastic and can hardly break. When this is the case, usually hard stones or seeds have been used or there is a serious degree of "overfeeding" You may submit a request for replacement under warranty. Send an email to info@versapers.nl including a picture of the broken strainer and your explanation of what happened. We will be happy to contact you. This procedure also applies when you bought the Versapers in a shop at one of our dealers.
